The SPARTANS FC

NEWS for SEASON 2007-08

The first 3 games of the season were postponed due to the unprecedented deluge in August. Spartans finally managed to kick-off with a 3-3 league draw against Edinburgh City. But even this fixture was affected by the weather, the game being switched from waterlogged City Park to Edinburgh City's ground.

After two gruelling Scottish Cup 1st round matches against Glasgow Junior side, Pollok, Spartans edged through at home with a late goal to win 1-0. In the 2nd round Spartans took yet another League scalp knocking out SFL 3rd Division side Annan Athletic by 2-1 away from home. Spartans now travel to Elgin City for the 3rd round, hoping once more for another League scalp.

Extra time and penalty kicks saw Spartans proceed to the SFA Challenge Cup 2nd Round. Their next opponents are Lothian Thistle at City Park, the match being scheduled for 15 November.

The recent poor summer and autumn weather will soon mean that Spartans will have played no home league matches since the season commenced 3 months previously.
